Devotional: The Fallibility of Heroes

Heritage Presbyterian Church https://heritagepresbyterian.org

Scripture – 1st Samuel 8:1 – 9:27

Theme: When we put heroes on a pedestal, when we expect them to be perfect (or treat them like they are), that is a tough thing to do. Heroes are everyday people who may do extraordinary things – but they are still everyday people. To expect a hero to be perfect is wrong – the only perfect one is Jesus Christ. A perfect example is King Saul in the Old Testament – he had everything going for him and should have been a heroic king, but he proved to be a terrible king. When David replaced him, God’s will was obvious in the path Saul had chosen.
