Theme: Mary, the mother of Jesus, is in paintings or statues, she is classically portrayed as a eastern European woman in her 20’s. In truth, Mary was most likely a young teenager and she was a Judean Jew. So a more accurate picture of her shows a very young woman with a child. This sort of scene usually bothers most Americans…but it also shows just how extraordinary Mary was.
