September Announcements

A welcome mat with the word " welcome ".

September 29 we welcome Rev. Cheryl Gans to our pulpit.  She currently serves as a Supplemental Chaplain with Memorial Hermann Hospital. She enjoys playing in the garden, running, and guitar. She often throws the ball with her dog Scout, spends time with her husband of 29 years, Andy, and shares conversations with their two daughters as they enjoy college life.  Cheryl, thanks for being with us.

Your 2019 Nominating Committee finishes their work this week and will present a slate of nominees for 3 Session elders, 1 Deacon, and 3 congregational members for the 2020 Nominating Committee.  Please make sure to thank Jodie Smith, Angie Martin, George McDonald, Betty Brown, Katie McMillen, and Mary Vonderheidt.  Session will set the date for the election of our new class of officers very soon.

From Elder Jim Lower: thank you and the members of the Mission and Outreach Committee for allowing us to collect dinnerware for the upcoming Christmas party at the Pinemont Apartments.  The congregation contributed 39 separate packages of plates, cups and plastic utensils. I think we can serve about 100 residents plus family members who visit for the annual dinner.  The board members and staff of the Pinemont complex will surely welcome this gift when I deliver it next month.

Last Sunday we received $370 in donations for our Deacons’ Fund.  That gives your Deacons a total of $1139 to help folks in our area.  Thank you for your continued generosity!

Today is the fifth Sunday of this month, and that means it’s “Stump the Choir†Sunday!  On this Sunday, the members of the congregation select ALL the hymns for our worship service – even the offertory anthem.  When the time for a hymn arrives, the liturgist will ask for suggestions, and the congregation may call out a specific hymn BY NUMBER for the choir to sing.  If the choir is not “stumped†– we sing it!  But remember…the music director gets to choose the final hymn!
