Our History

Heritage's historic landmark chapel

Recorded Texas Historic Landmark – 1980

Our sanctuary now seats several hundred people.  But the chapel in front of our main campus originally was constructed in 1916 near the banks of Little Cypress Creek (11 miles NW of our present location).  This chapel originally served the congregation of St. John Lutheran Church. Designed with gothic detailing, it was built by German craftsmen. When the St. John congregation grew too large for the chapel, it was purchased by the members of Windwood Presbyterian Church and moved to Grant Road (8 miles NE of our present location). Finally, in 1980, the chapel was moved to its present location where it served as the main sanctuary for Heritage Presbyterian until we outgrew it and built our beautiful new sanctuary.  The chapel remains on our property, where it serves as the sanctuary for a Korean Church with whom we share our facilities.  The chapel is also a community landmark and favorite location for weddings.
